Mound Key Archeological State Park is one of the most interesting places in Estero. Mound Key is thought to be the ceremonial grounds of Calusa indigenous people and also contains mounds of artifacts left from the time of the Spanish settlers. You can explore the park through the interactive informational trail. You can also enjoy saltwater fishing, boating, and there is extensive bird watching and marine animals that you can explore throughout. If you enjoy exploring and don’t want to spend all your time relaxing on the beach you might also enjoy a stop at the Happehatchee Center.
At the center you can enjoy nature trails, and more wildlife exploration. You can also kayak along the Estero River. There are several places that locals love to frequent to fill up after a long day of exploring, one such hot spot is Ford’s Garage.
